Doris Robieson Hoplin, 95, of Glenwood died Saturday, February 16, 2019, at the Glacial Ridge Hospital surrounded by family. In lieu of a memorial service, the family will gather on her birthday next September for an inurnment service at the Reno Mission Cemetery, North of Lowry, per her wishes.
Doris Elizabeth Robieson, the daughter of James and Ellen Robieson, was born September 25, 1923, two days after her family moved to Lowry, MN. She graduated from Glenwood High School in 1941. After high school, she worked for Ewald Brothers Dairy in Minneapolis. In 1944, she joined the war effort in California, as one of the “Rosie the Riveters” where she repaired damaged fighters and bombers so they could be sent back into battle. She was united in marriage to Donald L. “Bud” Hoplin on May 29, 1948, in Minneapolis. Their son Mark was born in August of 1950. They lived in Minneapolis and Brandon, MN but spent the majority of their lives together in Glenwood. In 2006, they moved into the apartment in their son’s home, where they happily spent the remainder of their years close to the family they cherished.
Doris loved to travel with her family, where she enjoyed hiking and picnicking in scenic spots all around the world. She was an avid collector, gardener, roller skater, and bird lover. Her beautiful needlepoint works adorn the homes of all her grandchildren. Doris loved physical activity. She exercised and stretched daily until recently and was famous for doing somersaults into her 90s. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was very active in their lives.
She is survived by her son, Mark Donald Hoplin, and his wife, Lesley of Glenwood, MN. Her granddaughter is Melissa Irene Hoover, married to Douglas of Bemidji, MN. Their children are Nicholas and Elaina. Her eldest grandson is Eric Donald Hoplin, married to Nicole of Oakton, VA. Their children are Eric Jr., Thatcher, and Spencer. Her youngest grandson is Nels Anton Hoplin, married to Kristen of Edina, MN. Their children are Alexandria and Zoe. She is also survived by her sister, Roberta Clayton, of Brownsdale MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ellen Robieson; husband Donald Hoplin; brothers Jim, Kenneth, Clarence, Roy, and Francis Robieson; and sisters Ruby Bennett and Laberta Larson.
