Edmund Norby Obituary

Edmund Norby, age 89 of Belgrade, formerly of Brooten, died Tuesday, September 21, 2024 at the Belgrade Nursing Home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 1st at Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church in Terrace with Pastor Brenda Boogren officiating. Visitation will be at the church, one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Edmund Myran Norby, the son of Gilbert and Geneva (Gulbranson) Norby was born January 30, 1935 at home in Langhei Township, Pope County, Minnesota. He was baptized at East Zion Lutheran Church. When he was about three, his family moved to the Terrace area. There Eddie attended country school and became a member of Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church where he was confirmed, married and continued to be a member throughout his life. In May of 1958, Eddie enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country honorably for a total of six years, the first two of which were active duty and the last four he was with the army reserves.

On December 22, 1961, Edmund was united in marriage to Joyce Bromen at Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church. They were blessed with three children, Sheila, Anita, and Myran, which they raised in the Starbuck area. While his children were growing up, Eddie worked at Brownies, Glenwood Manufacturing, and various other jobs in the area. He and Joyce eventually divorced and Eddie moved to St. Cloud, where he worked for many years at Big A Auto Parts until his retirement. At that time, Eddie purchased a home in Brooten. In March of this year, Eddie’s health deteriorated to the point that it became necessary for him to become a resident at the Belgrade Nursing Home. He passed away there early Tuesday, September 24, 2024, having lived to the age of 89 years.

Eddie was blessed to find love again later in life, thanks to his sister-in-law who introduced him to her friend, Betty Nordby. The two quickly became a couple and were engaged for over twenty years before Betty’s death earlier this year. He and Betty loved to travel, play cards, and socialize with friends. Eddie also enjoyed fishing and woodworking.

Eddie is survived by his three children, Sheila Panek of Brooten, Anita (Tim) Lent of Brooten, and Myran (special friend, Amy Anderson) of Starbuck; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher, Kelsey, Sara, Nicole, Anthony, Heidi, Megan, and Courtney; 21 great grandchildren, Blake, Maggie, Michelle, Anna, Mataya, Olivia, Joey, Hailey, Lexi, Kaelyn, Taylor, Cole, Amelia, Aiden, Zander, Aria, Elise, Rylee, Natalie, Genevieve, and Declan; six siblings: Anna Johnsrud, Margaret Nelson, Gertrude Hunt, Magdelyn (Donald) Reutzel, Richard (Jeanie) Norby, and Wesley (Ruth Binnebose) Norby; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and ten siblings: Johnny Norby, Rachel Holten, Kaius Norby, Sylvia Norby, Freddie Norby, Gisle Norby, Magnus Norby, Gedina Smith, Edna Norby and Caroline Norby.
