Gary Martin, age 75 of Glenwood, died Friday, December 1, 2023 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. Gary Curtis Martin, the son of Seldon and Florence (Moen) Martin was born on November 6, 1948, in Glenwood Minnesota. His parents had five children and Gary was number four. He grew up in Glenwood and attended Glenwood Lutheran Church. He attended Glenwood High School until his senior year when he enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 22, 1967. He was deployed to Thailand for one year, two months, and twenty days serving as a 36r20 cable splicing specialist where he was awarded the National Defense medal, the Vietnam Service medal, the Vietnam Campaign medal, and the Good Conduct medal. After his deployment, he was stationed in Oakland California until his honorable discharge from the Army on August 21, 1969.
He carried numerous jobs throughout his early adulthood until starting his own business, Martin Communications in Glenwood for 22 years where he provided various telecommunication services. He was united in marriage to Donna Goehring on October 30, 1976 at Glenwood United Parish. They made their home in Glenwood. He had numerous accomplishments in life, but Gary was always the proudest of the fact that he was born, grew up, and raised a family in the house he built on his family's residence until his time of death.
He belonged to the Glenwood branch of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, being in the garage visiting with friends/tinkering around and babysitting his grandkids.
Gary’s greatest accomplishment was being a great father, grandfather, and friend. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh with friends and family. He always enjoyed time spent just being at home in his garage listening to music and tinkering. He was extremely proud and honored to be a U.S. Army Veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, their son Corey Martin (Jennifer Jesse) of Brooklyn Park MN, and daughter Sara Martin (Justin Meyer) of Glenwood, grandchildren Carson Meyer and Callie Meyer of Glenwood, brother, Steven Martin of Glenwood, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Seldon and Florence Martin, brother, Donald Martin, and sisters, Lorraine Van Vickle, and Darlene Robinson.
