Gloria J. Pletten

Gloria Jean Pletten, age 60, of Cyrus, MN, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, of natural causes. A private family memorial service will be held for Gloria. Inurnment will be in Minnewaska Lutheran Cemetery at Starbuck. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Gloria Jean Pletten was born in Morris, MN on June 14, 1960, to Einard and Velora (Blomquist) Pletten. She was raised in the nearby town of Cyrus along with her two sisters and two brothers. As an infant she was baptized in the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hancock and later she completed Confirmation at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. Gloria attended school in Cyrus before eventually completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Minnesota at Morris in May of 2009.

On October 16, 1976, Gloria was united in marriage to Jerrold Wartner at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. They made their home in various cities before returning to Cyrus in 1980. Their union was blessed with two children, Jessica and Jeff. Gloria and Jerrold later divorced. During her years of employment, Gloria worked in various group home settings as a direct care specialist, utilizing her degree in Sociology.

Gloria enjoyed a close relationship with her grandson, Logan and spending time with loved ones. In recent years, her favorite treat was iced coffee, which she enjoyed getting every day.

Having recently celebrated her 60th birthday with family and friends, Gloria passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, of natural causes. She will be remembered as a wonderful storyteller and for her delightful personality, sense of humor and infectious smile. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Gloria is survived by her daughter, Jessica Graue of Cyrus; her son, Jeffrey (Jill) Wartner of Carlton; grandchildren, Logan Graue, Hadley Wartner, Olivia and Brynn; two sisters, Anita (Chris) Guelcher of Menahga and Carol (David) Braaten of Farwell; one brother, Ronald (Liz) Pletten of Anoka; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Einard and Velora Pletten; brothers, Leroy, Calvin (in childhood), and half-brother, Richard, along with infant brother, Donald, and a stillborn sister and brother.
