Gloria Terhaar, age 93 of Lowry, died Friday, September 10, 2021 at Glenwood Retirement Village, Glenwood MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, September 17 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in rural Lowry. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September16 at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Catholic Relief Service. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Gloria Terhaar, the daughter of Henry and Theresia (Schramel) Weimerskirch, was born at home on a farm near Belgrade, Minnesota. She attended school in Belgrade through 10th grade.
On May 17, 1948, Gloria was united in marriage to Clifford Terhaar at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Belgrade, MN. After their marriage, the couple made their home and farmed near Sedan. In 1951, Clifford and Gloria purchased a farm and moved to Lowry, MN, where they raised their nine children.
Gloria was a devoted Catholic and served the church by teaching religion classes, serving on the parish council, making floral arrangements for the altar, regularly leading the rosary, and was also active with Christian Mothers. She served on the Pope County Counsel of Aging and provided home health aid for several years.
Gloria was an excellent cook, baker and seamstress. Her green thumb was evident with her bountiful garden, beautiful flowerbeds and healthy houseplants, She had an artistic flare and enjoyed painting ceramics and doing crafts. Gloria made countless quilts for charities and for every one of her nine children and numerous grandchildren. Though sensible and practical, Gloria had a quick wit and good sense of humor.
She is survived by her children: Jeanne Terhaar of Hopkins, Deloris Staffanson of Apple Valley, Lavonne (Michael) Sparks of North Branch, Sharon Tauber of Mound, Gary (Sue) Terhaar of Blaine, Mark Terhaar of St. Joseph, Paul (Roberta) Terhaar of Lowry, Dale Terhaar of Robbinsdale and Karl (Jody) Terhaar of St. Joseph; grandchildren: Kristin Staffanson, Tara (Shawn) Rafftery, Robert Sparks, Melissa (Chris) Larson Buttrum, Ann Tauber, Amy (Rob) Dykoski, Leeja Miller, Brian Terhaar, Jason (Lindsey) Terhaar, Elissa (Rob) Komro, Joseph Terhaar, Riley Terhaar, Jeremy Terhaar, Justin Terhaar and Rachael Terhaar; great-grandchildren: Aric, Nathan, Alex, Zoe, McKenzie, Emily, Marek, Tobin, Jamilla, Toni, TJ, Coen, Ilaria and Oliver; brother, Arnold (Ann) Weimerskirch of Wayzata; sister-in-law, Nancy Weimerskirch of Belgrade; in-laws Bernard (Shirley) Terhaar of Iowa, Virginia Terhaar of Brooten, Bernice Klein of Breckenridge, Barbara North of St. Cloud, Anna Marie Rameta of Los Angeles, California, Shirley Terhaar of Sedan, and nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clifford, and siblings Rosie, Louise, Arlene, Donald, Marie, Marcela, Joe, and Dennis.
