Harold Guderian Obituary

Harold Guderian, age 92, of Glenwood, MN and formerly of Lowry, died Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 3rd, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lowry with Pastor Joe Skogmo officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Monday morning, one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Norunga Lutheran Church Cemetery. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Harold Guderian, son of Frederick and Harmena “Minnie” (Krie) Guderian, was born on January 11, 1928, in Gilmore City, IA. He grew up on a nearby farm with his three brothers and five sisters. He and his family worshipped at First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City, where Harold was baptized and confirmed. He attended Lake #2 County School through the 8th grade and then Rolfe High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1946. He met his wife, Eileen Moline, at church and the two were married on March 6, 1949. Following their wedding they settled on a farm west of town. In the 10 years that followed they moved five times before settling on a dairy farm west of Lowry, Minnesota where they enjoyed 55 years together before Eileen’s death on July 9, 2014.

In 2017, Harold moved to Parkwood Court in Glenwood, where he lived until last March, when he became a resident at Glenwood Village Care Center. He passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Glacial Ridge Hospital surrounded by family, following a brief illness.

Harold was a member of Norunga Lutheran Church, where he served on the council for many years. After Norunga closed, Harold worshipped at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lowry where he enjoyed Pastor Joe. Harold was a charter member of the Minnewaska Hospital in Starbuck. He also served on the Farwell Creamery Board and the Farmers Home Administration (FHA) Board.

To Harold, farming was more than just a way to earn a living, it was his favorite hobby. He loved farming not only his land, but helping other farmers as well. After his retirement Harold developed a serious interest in woodworking and made several beautiful and functional pieces of furniture.

Harold will be remembered for his work in the church and community, his dedication to and love for his family and friends, and his kind heart.

Harold is survived by his children, Debbie Watson of Forest Hill, MD, Randy (Vicky) Guderian of Glenwood, Gary (Krista) Guderian of Pillager, Jeff Guderian of Princeton, Tracy (Cindy) Guderian of Elk River, Jodi Bignell of Cokato, and daughter-in-law, Marge Guderian of Apple Valley; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Minnie; his wife, Eileen; a son, Dennis; a son-in-law, Paul Watson; three brothers, Julius, LeRoy, and Frederick; and five sisters, Hazel Jensen, Anna Applegate, Maria Guderian, Marguerie Bundy, and Bernice Feaster.
