James Edward Steinhofer, was born on September 6, 1963 in Melrose, Minnesota. He was the tenth of 12 children born to John P. and Margaret Gladys (Zirbes) Steinhofer, Sr. Jim grew up on Grove Lake and attended elementary and high school in nearby Glenwood. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and worshiped with his family at Immaculate Conception Church in Sedan.

On July 11, 1987, Jim was united in marriage to Pamela Sue Kettering of Sedan. The two made their home in the Brooten area. After high school, Jim worked with his father doing construction masonry for many years and then his brother, John, Jr. doing construction before going to work for Menards in Belgrade. He and Pamela later separated, but remained on good terms.

Jim liked to spend time working on anything with a small engine and tinkering around the house. When he and his brothers were younger, they enjoyed hunting together. Jim was blessed to be a part of a large, close-knit family and he looked forward to their many get-togethers.

Jim is survived by his son, Douglas Steinhofer of Litchfield; step-daughter, Holly, and her husband, Chad Freymiller, of Stitzer, WI, along with their children, Cadence and Connor; his wife, Pamela Steinhofer of St. Cloud; and his brothers, John Steinhofer Jr. of Big Falls, Tim Steinhofer (special friend Cindy) of Brooten, David Steinhofer of Sedan, Donald (Stefanie) Steinhofer of Sauk Centre, Chad Steinhofer of Glenwood; his sisters, Darlene Fadness of Sedan, Janice (Alan) Karasch of Hackensack, Kathy (David) Van Vickle of Glenwood, and LaDonna Steinhofer of Glenwood; three aunts, Shirley Steinhofer, Jean Fuchs, and Karen Zirbes, all of Melrose; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John, Sr. and Gladys Steinhofer; his son, Benjamin Jay Steinhofer (in 2021); two brothers, Daniel and Peter Steinhofer; and a brother-in-law, Dale Fadness.
