Jane L. (Hanson) Sagedahl

Jane Sagedahl, age 89, of Brooten, MN, died peacefully Saturday, August 8,2020, at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood surrounded by her family. Visitation will be indoors from 11:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. on Saturday, August 15th at South Lake Johanna Lutheran Church, rural Brooten. An outdoor (graveside) funeral service, officiated by Rev. Ron Knutson, will follow at 12:30 P.M. in the church cemetery, adjacent to the church. Those attending are encouraged to bring a lawn chair as outdoor seating will not be provided. In addition, pursuant to Gov. Walz's executive order, face masks will be required in the church building and those attending are asked to properly social distance while on church grounds. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Brooten. 

Jane Lorraine (Hanson) Sagedahl daughter of George and Augusta (Braaten) Hanson was born October 5, 1930 in Brooten, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm in Lake Johanna Township and attended country school. After country school, Jane attended Brooten High School where she was active in school and was voted homecoming queen in 1947. She graduated from Brooten High School in 1948. Jane was an active lifelong member of South Lake Johanna Church.

On November 5, 1949, Jane was united in marriage to Sidney Elwood Sagedahl at the South Lake Johanna parish parsonage near Sunburg. They made their home first near Willmar and then back to Brooten where she has resided since. Jane and Sidney owned the Brooten dry cleaners and Brooten Lanes. Throughout the years, Jane also worked for Brooten Area Housing, Brutanza Manufacturing, Glenwood Manufacturing and Bea’s Gift Shop. Jane and Sidney shared 50 years of marriage before Sidney passed away April 12, 2000.

Jane was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of Norway, South Lake Johanna WELCA and the Zetetic Study Club. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, gardening, and fishing, especially her annual fishing trips. She loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jane will be remembered for her large Christmas dinners, her lefse, her fierce love of her family and her insistence of always finding the perfect gift to give. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital.

Jane is survived by her son, Dan (Sue) Sagedahl of Brooten; daughter, Denise (Bill) Backer of Lidgerwood, ND; son-in-law, Tom Grundseth of Brooten; grandchildren: Erin Strub, Jesse Koob, Jamie Koob, Tim Grundseth, Marin Grundseth, Shannon Tucker, Mark Torkelson, Brock Backer, Stephanie Krisel, Cheryl Rowe; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Charles (Mary) Hanson; sisters-in-law, Gayle Anderson and Juanita Hanson; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sidney; daughter, Deborah Grundseth; sister, Gladys Sonstegaard; brothers, Harlen, Kermit and Elmo Hanson; and great-grandson, Tyler Torkelson.
