Joan Quist Obituary

Joan Quist, age 85 of Glenwood, died Monday, December 06, 2021 at the Glenwood Retirement Village. Services and burial will be held in the Spring of 2022 in Two Harbors, Minnesota.

Joan Hazel Johnson, the first of three daughters born to Albert and Fern (Albrandt) Johnson, was born April 22, 1936 in Two Harbors, Minnesota. She grew up in Two Harbors and graduated from high school there in 1953.

On July 21, 1953 Joan was united in marriage to Richard Quist in Two Harbors. This marriage was blessed with four children. The couple first made their home in Two Harbors where Richard was employed at National Foods. After several years, Richard decided to further his education and the family moved to Michigan where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business. With his education complete, he, Joan and the children returned to Minnesota, living first in Bloomington and later Roseville. During this time, Joan decided to pursue a degree in Elementary Education at the University of Minnesota, first earning her Bachelor’s degree and later her Master’s. She taught in the North St. Paul/Maplewood District for many years.

After Joan and Richard retired, they moved to Pine River. They also purchased a farm and hunting land in Ortonville. Joan and Richard enjoyed retirement; they loved entertaining family and friends at their house on White Fish Lake along with traveling in their motorhome. In 2005, they moved to the Glenwood area to be closer to their property in Ortonville. Joan loved to golf and shop. She especially loved spending time with her family. When Joan and Richard needed help with their daily care, their daughter, Valerie moved to Glenwood to help take care of them. They eventually ended up in assisted living and most recently at Glenwood Retirement Village. Richard died Friday, July 23, 2021 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood and Joan died December 6, 2021 at the Glenwood Retirement Village.
