Obituary

John Hedner, age 76 of Farwell, died Monday, June 13, 2022 at home. A memorial service celebrating John's life will be held on Saturday, August 27th at 10:00 a.m. at Nora Lutheran Church in rural Kensington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Inurnment will be in the church cemetery following the service. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. 

John Thomas Hedner was born on April 29, 1946 in Starbuck, Minnesota. He was the third of seven children born to parents Gordon and Helen (Belgum) Hedner. John grew up on the family farm in Nora Township and was a lifetime member of Nora Lutheran Church. He attended school in Kensington and graduated from Kensington High School in 1964. After high school, he attended Moorhead State University for two years.

After college, John worked for Flame Industries in Hopkins and later sold real estate for Burnet Realty in Minneapolis. In 1996, he moved home to provide care for his ailing parents. Following their deaths, John continued to live on the farm and worked for several years at Walmart and Menards in Alexandria.

John enjoyed playing cards (whist) in Kensington and Hoffman at the senior centers. He made several trips to Arizona and took his parents to see Disney World and the Oregon coast. He also visited his sisters in Portland, Yellowstone, and Glacial Park, Montana. John enjoyed several fishing trips with his brothers to northern Minnesota and an occasional trip to the casino.

John died unexpectedly on Monday, June 13, 2022 at home from natural causes. He will be greatly missed.

John is survived by two sisters, Ruth Ann (Charlie) Smith of Tigard, Oregon, and Mary (Ray) Tatyrek of Lake Oswego, Oregon; three brothers, David Hedner of Farwell, Bruce (Gail) Hedner of Farwell, and Mark (Rosie) Hedner of Alexandria; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon (in 2000) and Helen (in 2003), a sister, Rachel Hedner, and nephew, Todd Hedner.

Memorials may be sent to the Nora Lutheran Cemetery Fund at 36528 130th Street, Kensington, MN 56343.
