John Stillman Obituary

John Stillman, age 70 of Glenwood died Monday, December 15, 2025 at home under the care of Glacial Ridge Hospice. Private family services will be held and inurnment will be in Lake Amelia Cemetery in Villard.

John Charles Stillman was born on April 1, 1955, in Minneapolis to Dwayne and June (Anderson) Stillman. John was the sixth of seven spirited children raised in Bloomington. A graduate of Jefferson High School in 1973, John's pursuit of knowledge led him to Hennepin County Technical College, where he honed his skills and graduated with a degree in machine shop. His professional life was marked by over 25 years of dedicated service at the Metropolitan Council in Shakopee.

John was united in marriage to Joy Ellen Carpenter on August 11, 1979, at the First Christian Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Their union was a testament to love and partnership, blessed with two wonderful children, Carl and Amy. The family made their home in Burnsville.

In 2014, John and Joy retired to Pope County, where they embraced the beauty and tranquility of life near Lake Amelia. John's love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for fishing and hunting. He cherished the moments spent on his property putzing in his yard, hosting fish frys, simply enjoying the serenity of nature or gathering with family and friends enjoying shared laughter.

John's Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life, especially in hard times. He grew up attending the Evangelical Free Church and later found spiritual solace at Villard United Methodist Church after moving to Pope County. His generosity knew no bounds, and his ability to bring joy and wisdom to any situation was a gift to all who had the pleasure of his company. John died peacefully at home on December 15, 2025 after several years of health troubles. Those who knew John will forever remember him as a man who was not only funny and wise but also deeply faith-filled.

John is survived by his wife, Joy, of Glenwood; his son, Carl Stillman of Pelican Rapids; his daughter, Amy (Jared) DeMaster of North Mankato; and his cherished grandchildren, Anna, Thomas, and Leah DeMaster. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Kathy (Bob) Clapper, Bonnie Stillman, Mary Stillman, and Martha (John) Boughton; and his brother, Jeff (Deana) Stillman, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
