Joy Clover Rupp was born September 4, 1927 in Slayton, Minnesota. She was the first of three daughters born to Frank and Clover (Gilfillian) Swanson. Joy grew up near Lake Wilson where she attended school and graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1945.

On June 8, 1945 Joy was united in marriage to Lester Rupp at the United Methodist Church parsonage in Slayton. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Lake Wilson, Minnesota where they farmed and started their family. In 1954, the family moved to a farm 8 miles from Glenwood, which Joy and Lester purchased the previous year. Joy was a hardworking farm wife, loving homemaker and was employed as a nurse’s aide. She enjoyed reading, quilting, crocheting, embroidery and baking. She would make special baked treats for her children and grandchildren, sending many care packages over the years. Joy especially loved spending time with her family and her special dog, Dolly. Joy and Lester shared 61 years of marriage before Lester died January 12, 2007. After Lester died, Joy continued to reside on the farm for several years before moving into an apartment in Glenwood. She then moved into the Ridgewood Villa before needing more help with her daily care, at that time she moved into the Glenwood Retirement Village. She passed away there on October 4, 2021.

Joy is survived by her six children: Joyce (Joe) Kelley of Glenwood, Kenneth (Gin) Rupp of Villard, Terry (Joann) Rupp of Neenah, WI, Jerry (Sandy) Rupp of Omro, WI, Sharon (Gerald) Karger of Glenwood and Sheila (Wayne) Beckwith of Glenwood; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters; sisters: Almie Carlson of Lake Wilson, MN and Barbara (Leon) Thompson of Milbank, SD; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
