Obituary

Kahla Ladd, age 87, of Glenwood, MN died Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Glenwood Estates in Glenwood, MN. Funeral services will be private. Interment will be in the Benson City Cemetery, Benson, MN. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Kahla Maureen Ladd was born October 31, 1934 in Benson, MN to Sade Olivia (Lange) and Jasper Arthur Ladd. When she was four years old her parents purchased the Morris Hatchery and the family relocated to Morris. Kahla attended Morris public schools, where she graduated with the class of 1952. She then went on to complete one year of business school. On February 12, 1955, Kahla was united in marriage to Donald William Grote. They raised their family in Coon Rapids and Starbuck. Kahla later moved to Glenwood.

Kahla will be remembered as a “strong independent woman”. She loved her home with a view of Lake Minnewaska and enjoyed the garden she had there for many years. She was especially fond of her pets, cats and dogs, and she was a very good seamstress. She worked as a cook and nurse’s aide at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck and at Glenwood Retirement Village until heart surgery forced her into retirement. She is remembered by co-workers as a “fun, hard worker who out-worked many of the younger workers.”

Kahla loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very proud of each of them and looked forward to their visits.

Kahla had been a resident at Glenwood Estates for the past several years. She passed away there on Saturday, January 22, 2022, under the care of Moments Hospice.

Kahla is survived by her five children, Brian Grote of Sabin, Randy Grote of Glenwood, Kara Jean (Wes) Schultz of Alexandria and Marco Island, FL, Thomas Grote of Las Vegas, NV, and Mary (Eric) Danielson of Starbuck; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Daniel Grote; her infant sister, Patricia Mae; her sister, Joann Janet Frantum; and one daughter-in-law, DeAnn Hofstad Grote.
