Karen Rose Tauber was born on December 6, 1954, in Glenwood, Minnesota. Karen was the beloved daughter of Maynard and Rose (Kalina) Chan. Karen grew up on her family farm near Lowry, belonged to St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church and attended school in Glenwood. After graduating from Glenwood High School in 1972, she pursued higher education at UMM Morris, where she earned a BA in Music Education and Business.
On May 27, 1977, Karen was united in marriage to Mark Tauber. Their union was blessed with two wonderful children, Anthony and Melissa. Karen's role as a mother was one, she cherished deeply, and she extended her nurturing spirit to her grandchildren. She enjoyed baking, especially with her grandchildren, creating sweet memories. Karen's love for animals was evident in her care for the farm's cows, cats, and especially the chickens.
Music was Karen's lifelong companion, from playing the flute and piccolo to instilling a love for the arts in her children. Together with her children, they participated in community bands. She also shared her talent by playing with the orchestra at Theatre L’Homme Dieu and Showstoppers.
Karen taught music in Barrett and Glenwood, touching many lives through her gift of music. Her talents also led her to roles as an accountant at Wilkens Industries and Quinco Press. Later, she found joy in working at Little Lakers Preschool for six years until she retired. Karen died November 26, 2025 after a long battle with breast cancer. Her memory will be cherished by her family and all who knew and loved her.
Karen is survived by her husband, Mark; son, Tony (Katrina Beets) Tauber; daughter, Melissa (Nathan) Schultz; and her treasured grandchildren: Lucas, Hailey, Neiko, Levi, and Kendra; along with other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
