Kathleen McInerny Obituary

Kathleen S. McInerny, age 74, died from cancer at the Glenwood Retirement Village on January 19, 2025. A visitation celebrating Kathleen’s life will be held on Friday, February 21st from 1:00-3:00 pm at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. The family requests that any memorial contributions in Kathleen’s honor be sent to Glacial Ridge Hospice.

Kathleen Susan Talsky was born on November 17, 1950 to Benjamin and Dolores (Kucharski) Talsky in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was the oldest of two children. She grew up in nearby Waukesha and graduated from Catholic Memorial High School in 1969.

After high school Kathleen furthered her education and while attending college and working in Wisconsin, she met and married Randall Coffman and they had a daughter Renée. However, this marriage ended in divorce.

As a single mom, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, worked as a phycologist for a consulting firm, Wisconsin Electric Company, and at Duke Power Company near Huntersville, North Carolina. It was in North Carolina where she met Michael McInerny, a fellow Midwesterner, and they married in 1985. In 1989, they moved to a small acreage outside of Hutchinson, Minnesota. There she became self-employed where she boarded and trained horses, taught horseback riding lessons, and started a landscaping business. She and Michael moved to Glenwood in 2011 where she retired.

For as long as she could remember, Kathleen loved horses and bought her first horse soon after getting her first job. Since then, she always owned horses and rode them right through this past fall. While in North Carolina she frequently competed in dressage events and earned ribbons in many of them. After moving to Glenwood, she worked as a volunteer for Miracle Horse Riders that helps kids with special needs ride horses. Her home flower gardens were composed mostly of native plants and blooms occurred throughout the growing season. She went on many road trips with her husband, daughter, and mom, and traveled overseas with her mom, brother, uncle, and grandniece. She also enjoyed canoeing with her husband. She was a talented artist in a variety of forms including painting, drawing, etching, and needlepoint. She enjoyed most forms of music but rock-and-roll in the 1960s and 1970s was her favorite. Within the most recent years of her life, she participated in Silver Sneakers and often introduced to her fellow participants (with whom she befriended many) new styles of workout clothes!

Kathleen is survived by her husband, Michael; daughter Renée (Timothy Hall) Coffman, her niece Ray (Glenn) Talsky, grandniece Sara Keslin, and grandnephew William Keslin as well as nieces and a nephew on her husband’s side of the family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Loring.
