Kathy Schwieters, age 70 of Glenwood, died unexpectedly of natural causes, Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at home. Private family services will be held at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Glenwood. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Kathy Sue Schwieters was born on August 20, 1953, in Madison, Minnesota. She was the eldest of three children born to James and Sadie (Jacobson) Shackelford. Kathy spent her childhood in Marietta, Minnesota, where she was a member of the United Church of Christ and a proud alumna of Marietta High School, graduating in 1971. She furthered her education at Granite Falls Technical College, earning a degree in Medical Secretary.
Kathy began her professional journey at the Women's and Children's Medical Center in St. Cloud where she worked for 4 years. Her life took a beautiful turn when she married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Schwieters, on February 24, 1973, at St. Andrew's Church in Greenwald. The couple found joy in making homes in various places, including St. Joseph, St. Cloud, Sheboygan, WI, and Glenwood. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Grant and Darrin, whom Kathy cherished deeply.
Kathy was an avid gardener, a hobby that allowed her to express her creativity and love for nature. She found joy in raising dogs, particularly her last dog Biscuit and her current dog, Oreo. Kathy loved football and was a devoted Green Bay Packers fan. She also had a knack for knitting, baking, and decorating, skills that brought warmth and charm to their family home. Kathy will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother with kindness, warmth, and unwavering support.
She is survived by her sons, Grant (Angie) Schwieters of Richmond and Darrin (Dianne) Schwieters of Glenwood; and her treasured grandchildren, Alexander, Autumn, and Harrison Schwieters. Kathy also leaves behind her sister, Peggy (Gary) Hoaglund of Inver Grove Heights, MN and her brother, Bob (Cyndy) Shackelford of Lakeville; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Sadie Shackelford and her loving husband, Robert Schwieters who just passed away September 19, 2023.
