Larry L. Terpstra

Larry Terpstra, age 81 of Brooten, died peacefully at home surrounded by family, Thursday, March 6, 2025 under the care of his family and Glacial Ridge Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15th at Brooten Community Church with Pastor Rick Krasky officiating. Visitation will be Saturday morning before the service from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Bethany Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Glacial Ridge Hospice. 

Larry Lee Terpstra was born on January 19, 1944, in Hudson, South Dakota, to Harry and Gladys (Brinkhuis) Terpstra, Larry was the eldest of five siblings. His early years were spent on the family farm in South Dakota, and at the age of ten, he and his family relocated to Brooten, where he would eventually establish his own roots.

Larry's life was one marked by dedication and love. On May 19, 1979, he married the love of his life, Nancy Neiber, in Glenwood, Minnesota. Together, they built a life on their farm near Brooten, nurturing the land and their family with equal devotion.

A proud veteran, Larry served his country in the United States Navy from January 9, 1962, until his honorable discharge on January 7, 1965. His commitment to service continued in his civilian life, where he farmed with passion, raised hogs, and spent 20 years driving a semi. Larry also dedicated 22 years to safely transporting children as a school bus driver for BBE school, from 1987 to 2009.

Larry's involvement in his community was a testament to his caring nature. He was an active member of the Brooten Community Church, serving on the church council, and he also contributed his time and wisdom to the Bangor township board. His interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. Larry found joy in taking his beloved dog, Snickers, for rides, collecting an assortment of treasures, fishing, farming, feeding the birds, and playing cards. Above all, he cherished the moments spent with his family, especially his wife, Nancy, his daughter, JoLee, and his granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Terpstra of Brooten; his daughter, JoLee (Dean) Boysen of Glenwood; his granddaughters, Ashlee (Josh) Freidt, Alicia, and Paige Boysen; his adopted family, Eric, Nancy, Peyton, Brooke, and Jayda Kolstoe; three sisters, Ann, Barb, and Donna; one brother, Dave; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. His special dog, Snickers, also remains a cherished member of the family.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Gladys Terpstra; his parents-in-law, Virgil and Lois Neiber; and a cousin, David Neiber.

Larry's life will be celebrated in the memories of his loved ones and the community that he held dear. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those he touched.
