Lorraine Evon Gandrud was born on July 9, 1935, in Dawson, Minnesota, to Albert and Inez Larson. She graduated from Dawson High School in 1953 and worked at the Credit Bureau office in Montevideo before marrying Richard Gandrud on September 9, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dawson.
Lorraine and Richard settled in Glenwood in 1957, where they raised their three children: Erick, John, and Kristin. Lorraine was active in Glenwood Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Ladies Aid president, and choir member. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
She helped establish the Pope County Humane Society in 1985 and served as its first president, contributed to the Revision Committee for the Glenwood City Charter, and volunteered with the American Cancer Society and Pope County Hospice program. Lorraine enjoyed playing tennis and was a member of the Tuesday Ladies League at Minnewaska Golf Club. She spent many hours tending her flower garden, which brought her a sense of peace and joy.
Lorraine loved to travel with Richard. They visited many places together and spent winters in Mississippi with their then dog, Kate. Time with family was important to her, and she especially valued gatherings with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Lorraine is survived by her children: Erick (Ruth) of Glenwood, John (Sonia) of Villard, and Kristin (Tom) Goracke of Starbuck; grandchildren: Matthew, Sarah, Ryan (Lacey) Gandrud; Rachel (Ben) Sayles; Samuel (Emily) Goracke; and Andrew; and great-grandchildren: Elle, Henry, Arlo, Elin, Eila, Bode, Rowan, Oliver, Avery, and Maverick. She leaves behind nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harold Larson, her sister Dolores Haugum, and her husband Richard. Lorraine is remembered for her commitment to her family, faith, and community, and for the simple pleasures she found in her garden and time spent with loved ones.
