Lowell Edward Lee, son of Eddie and Mildred Lee, husband of Marcia, was born on March 9, 1937 on the family farm in Georgetown Township, Minnesota. He was the younger brother to Glenise Donley. Lowell was given the nickname Skip in early childhood and that is what we called him. The family moved to Audubon, Minnesota, where Skip was confirmed at First Lutheran Church. He was graduated from Audubon High School in 1955 as the class Valedictorian. He is a graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, and the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, where he earned a Master’s Degree, cum laude.
Skip was united in marriage to Marcia Odland on June 14, 1959, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. In 1961, Skip and Marcia moved to Brainerd, Minnesota, where he taught German and English for two years at Brainerd Senior High School. Twin daughters, Krista and Kari, were also born that year.
In 1963, the Lee family moved to St. Louis Park, Minnesota, where Eric was born in 1966. Skip taught for thirty years in the St. Louis Park school system, retiring in 1994. The family were faithful members of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, where Eric was baptized.
After Marcia survived a debilitating stroke in 1981, Skip became her primary caregiver for the rest of her life. Upon retirement, they moved to their East Battle Lake home, and became active members of First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake, the surrounding community, and participated in many social activities. The two traveled to Europe and throughout North America many times in their retirement.
Skip was a kind, generous, warm-hearted man. People who met him remembered him because of his gracious demeanor, sense of humor and wonderful story telling. Strangers quickly became friends.
Our deep gratitude to the staff of Lakeview Senior Living in Battle Lake, Minnesota, where Skip and Marcia lived the last decade of their lives.
