Lucille Elliott Obituary

Lucille “Lou” Elliott, age 88, of Alexandria, and formerly of Villard and Westport, died Sunday, May 3, 2020, at Grand Arbor. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, a private visitation will be held for Lou on Friday, May 8th, followed by a graveside service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Lake Amelia Cemetery in Villard. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Lucille “Lou” Audrey Kangas, daughter of Henry and Stella (Heikkinen) Kangas, was born on September 20, 1931, at home near Holmes City in Douglas County, MN. She was raised near Brandon along with her two sisters and four brothers. Lou was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Finnish Apostolic Church in Moe Township. She attended country school and was a graduate of Kensington High School. On March 31, 1952, Lou was united in marriage to Ralph Elliott of Villard at Lake Reno Presbyterian Church, rural Glenwood. They made their home on a family farm in Leven Township near Villard, where they raised their three children. Lou worked briefly as a bookkeeper, but was primarily a farmer at heart, helping Ralph and raising the children. After they retired, the two moved to a farm near Westport and eventually to Lake Reno while wintering in Arizona. Lou and Ralph enjoyed 52 years of marriage before his death in 2005. Lou continued to live at home until 2014 when she became a resident at Grand Arbor in Alexandria.

Lou was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Villard. She loved spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the local birthday club, card club and a past board member at the Glenwood Hospital and the Pope County Historical Society. When Ralph was living, she enjoyed deer hunting with him and other family members. She also enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing checkers, sewing and feeding the birds. She was a hard worker and a talented baker, specializing in kolaches and caramel rolls. Her favorite musician was Johnny Cash and back in the day she was a fan of All-Star Wrestling.

Lucille passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2020, at Grand Arbor in Alexandria, at the age of 88. Her family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Grand Arbor for the wonderful care that Lucille received over the years.

Lou is survived by her three children, Gordon and wife Bonnie of Peterson; Marilyn and husband Kervyn Kaelke of New London, Roger and wife Pam of Mound; six grandchildren, Matthew (Kayla), David (Ashlee), Nathan, Andrea, Russell (Rachel) and Keith (Nicole); seven great-grandchildren, Sophia, Faith, Josiah, Karis, Garrett, Collette, and Remie; a sister, Jean Root of Aitkin; two brothers, Jack (Josie) Kangas of Kensington and Marvin (Dorothy) of Brandon; a sister-in-law, Rosie Kangas of Garfield; a brother-in-law, Les Williams of Parkers Prairie; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
