Luverne Blair Obituary

Luverne Blair, age 97, of Starbuck, formerly of Lowry, died Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Holly Ridge Manor. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Luverne exemplified kindness, humor, and warmth. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 4th at Lowry Community Covenant Church with Pastor Andy League officiating. Visitation will be Friday, April 3rd at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood from 5:00 – 6:30 P.M. with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 P.M. and will resume on Saturday, at the church, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Lake Ann Cemetery. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Luverne Joyce Everson Blair was born to John and Laura (Thorson) Everson on November 19, 1928 in Kandiyohi County. Growing up the daughter of Hawick’s blacksmith, Luverne loved her small-town life – the one room schoolhouse, the Norwegian Lutheran church, reading at night by kerosene lantern, and enjoying the company of her six siblings. The granddaughter of immigrants, Luverne’s Norwegian heritage was a source of pride and delight her entire life.  Her trip to Norway in 2008 with her sister Beatrice was the trip of lifetime – meeting relatives and seeing the farms and fjords of her grandparents.

A graduate of Paynesville High School, she went on to earn her RN degree at the Lutheran Deaconess School of Nursing in Minneapolis.  Soon after taking a job at the Glenwood Hospital, she met George Blair.  They were united in marriage on May 23, 1953 at Zion Lutheran.  They made their home in rural Glenwood where they raised their four children.

Central to Luverne’s life was her devotion to God.  From teaching Sunday School to taking Moody Bible correspondence courses, growing spiritually and being of service to her church community were central to her life.  She could be found each and every morning reading her devotions and praying for her family and friends. Luverne will be remembered for her love of God, love of family, and love of community.

Luverne died March 29, 2026 at Holly Ridge Manor in Starbuck.

She is survived by her three daughters, Rita (Jeff) Larson, Laurie (Doug) Musselman, and Teri Blair; daughter-in-law, Joyce Blair; grandchildren, Curt (Angie) Blair, Renae (Tyrone) Browley, Katie (Kyle) Nichtern, Ruth (Annette Jensen) Musselman, Anna Musselman, Russ Musselman, Ellie (Maurice) Ochieng, Naomi (Umair) Tabassum, and Luke Musselman; great grandchildren Clay, Brady, Kennedy, and Will Blair, Titus, Tyson, Jaden and Aliya Browley, James, Marshall, Norah and Leo Nichtern, Georgia and Frances Jensen, Emmanuel, Ruth and Esther Ochieng, Pema and Ira Tabassum; her sister, Beatrice Visser; and many nieces and nephews.
