Magnus Rangvold Norby, the son of Gilbert and Geneva (Gulbranson) Norby was born January 24, 1928 in Langhei Township, Pope County, Minnesota. He attended country school by East Zion Lutheran Church where he was baptized. When he was about 10 his family moved and, he attended country school close to Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church where he was confirmed, married and continued to be an active member.

On February 14, 1953, Magnus was united in marriage to Audrey Rasmusson, of Sunburg, at the Chippewa Falls Lutheran church. They made their home on a farm in Barsness Township near Terrace and were blessed with four children. Magnus and Audrey farmed and worked in town.  Magnus, in addition to farming his whole life, worked at the refrigerator plant in St. Cloud, for Lester Ogdahl in construction, became a butcher for the Glenwood meat locker and later worked as a butcher for Jack and Jill, the grocery store in Glenwood. He also worked for Cenex in Starbuck and Palmer Bus Service before his last job was working with Gleoge’s Chevrolet doing a little bit of everything. In 2002, he retired from farming and in 2005 he and Audrey moved into Glenwood. Along with being an active member at Chippewa Falls Lutheran he also volunteered around the community. He enjoyed farming, spending time with his family and friends, music, hunting and fishing, visiting, telling stories, and just being around people.
