Marcella "Sally" Wiener Obituary

Marcella “Sally” Ruth Wiener, age 89 of Glenwood, died December 2, 2020 at Glenwood Retirement Village. Due to the covid-19 restrictions no public services will be held at this time. Once the restrictions have lifted and it is safe to gather again, services will be announced. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Marcella “Sally” Ruth Hieronimus, the daughter of Chris and Jenny (Fischer) Hieronimus, was born January 7, 1931 in Rushmore, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm near Rushmore along with her six sisters, Ethel, Pearl, Arlene, Mildred, Dorothy, and Alberta. Marcella and her family were members of East Friesland Presbyterian Church. She attended Rushmore Elementary School and High School.

On September 10, 1948 Marcella was united in marriage to Henry Lutterman in Wilmont, Minnesota. After their marriage, they made their home on the Lutterman family farm near Wilmont. During this time, they were blessed with four of their six children, including a son, Gerald, who died in a farming accident at age 5. In 1958, they moved to a farm near Millerville, where they welcomed two more children. Later, Marcella and Henry purchased and operated a diner in Brandon. In 1969, they moved to Villard where they made their permanent home and finished raising their children. Marcella and Henry shared 48 years of marriage before Henry’s death in 1996.

Marcella continued to reside in Villard after Henry passed. On October 19, 1999, she married William “Bill” Wiener, a widower who had previously resided on nearby Lake Amelia. Like Marcella, Bill also had five children and 13 grandchildren. They enjoyed 12 years of marriage before William’s death in 2011.

Marcella was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Villard, the Villard Legion Auxiliary, the local Senior Citizens group, and the Red Hat Society. Over the years she worked as a CNA in nursing homes and hospitals. She was a talented seamstress and skilled craftsperson, with dolls and Halloween costumes being her specialty. She enjoyed going to garage sales, cooking, baking, and gardening. Each fall she would can the produce that she grew and also make jelly and other family favorites like canned beef to be served with Brussels sprouts. This time of year her family especially longs for her homemade cookies and fudge. Marcella also knew how to have fun, which earned her the nickname “Mustang Sally” with her children and nieces. They will never forget Marcella’s one-liner’s and warm smile.

Marcella lived a rich, full life. She was a wonderful mom and grandma and will be greatly missed. She passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at Glenwood Retirement Village, having lived to the age of 89 years. Blessed be her memory.

Marcella is survived by her children, Gailyn “Butch” (Sharon) Lutterman of Conifer, CO, Byron (Vicki) Lutterman of Glenwood, Nancy (Luther) Olson of Ramsey, and Wayne (Janet) Lutterman of Glenwood; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer, Tina, Jon, Chris, Jacob, Michael, Matthew, Martin, Lisa, Emma, Tom, Toni and Alan; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene (Alan) Joens and Dorothy (Melvin) Rust; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Jenny; first husband, Henry Lutterman, second husband, William Wiener; two sons, Gerald (in 1956) and Dale Lutterman (in 2014); and four sisters, Ethel (Aielt) Lupkes, Pearl (Fred) Smith, Mildred (Robert) Raley, and Alberta (Robert) Haabala.
