Marcene Kendall Obituary

Marcene Marlyn (Cafourek) Kendall, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully at home in her husband’s arms, on Friday, September 6, 2024.

Marcene was born July 29, 1940 in Madison, Lac Qui Parle County, Minnesota. She was one of ten children born to Alfred and Emily Cafourek. She was very active in gardening and was known for her green thumb as she could bring any plant back to life. She loved animals, especially horses, and loved the outdoors. She was very active in 4-H when her kids were young and loved keeping scrapbooks of all the girl’s achievements and State Fair adventures. Marcene had a love for waitressing and always would talk about her encounters with her clientele at Grover’s Truck Stop, whether she was serving the local law enforcement, truck drivers, or all the high school kids coming in after sporting events and dances. She had a love for sports. Her favorite teams to watch were the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys for football, Atlanta Braves for baseball and Minnesota Wild for hockey. She loved spending time with family whenever she could. She enjoyed her country music and watching her favorite TV show, Yellowstone with her loving support dog, Finnigan.

Marcene is survived by her husband, William Kendall of Glenwood, MN; daughters, Paula (Brad) Kettering of Starbuck, MN, Christine (Jeff) Grays of Prescott Valley, AZ, Valerie (Jim) Valeri of Buhl, MN, and Raquel Malvick (significant other, Blake Westrum) of Detroit Lakes, MN; brothers, Alfred “Bobby” Cafourek of Anchorage, AK and Lyndon Cafourek of Nashwauk, MN; sisters, Delores Warden of Glenwood, Ladonna (John) Koski of Eugene, OR, Carol (Donald) Metzer of Broken Arrow, OK, Nancy Koewler of Las Vegas, NV, and Marie (Roy) Breeden of Nashwauk, MN; Marcene was so proud to be grandma to 11 awesome grandchildren and 18 beautiful great-grandchildren. She was also survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Emily Cafourek, her late husband, Robert Dodge, Jr.; sister, Jeanette Webster; brother, Edward “Butch” Cafourek and great-granddaughter, Charlotte “Charlie” Reagan Elj.

Marcene wanted us to remember her with laughter and not tears. She will be greatly missed by many, but we know we will all be together again.

John 16:22: Therefore, you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will Rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.

Psalm 34:18: The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

A Celebration of Marcene’s life will be planned for May of 2025. Details will follow. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
