Marjorie Guindon Obituary

Marjorie Guindon, age 91 of Villard, died peacefully at home on Monday, October 28, 2024 under the care of her family and Douglas County Hospice. A visitation celebrating Marge's life will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Marjorie Ann Guindon was born on June 30, 1933, in St. Paul, Minnesota.  She was the beloved daughter of John and Margaret (Dill) Pfeifer and grew up in the Twin Cities, where she attended Monroe High School and graduated in 1951. Marge was employed by the State of Minnesota in St. Paul, where she dedicated many years of service.

On June 6, 1953, Marge married the love of her life, Sidney Guindon, in St. Paul, Minnesota. They were blessed with four children and shared 39 wonderful years of marriage until Sidney's passing on October 3, 1992. Following this loss, Marge found solace in the peaceful surroundings of Villard, where she moved in 1995.

An avid fisherwoman, Marge loved spending hours fishing off the dock at her cabin on Lake Villard, where she enjoyed the beauty of nature. When Marge’s children were growing up she was famous for her chocolate chip cookies she would bake for her children and their friends twice a week. Marge also made an amazing potato salad.

Marge's sense of humor was a gift to those around her, and her famous last words, "Did you remember to take the plug out of the boat?" will be remembered with fondness and a smile by all who were lucky enough to share in her adventures. Marge died peacefully at home on Monday, October 28, 2024 under the care of her family and Douglas County Hospice.

She is survived by her sons, Michael (Karen) of Forest Lake, MN, David (Kristine) of Starbuck, and daughter, Sharon (Michael) Knapp of Hoffman, MN; grandchildren, Stefanie and Kai Guindon-Hjermstad, Christopher and Nicole Walsh, Allison and Matt Wortman, Kayla Walsh and Anthony Madsen, as well as her 12 great-grandchildren. Marge's warmth extended to her adopted dog, Oscar, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Pfeifer; her husband, Sidney; an infant son, Steven; brothers, John and Gerald; and a sister, Marlene Schaefer.
