Mark Olson, age 71 of Glenwood, died Saturday, November 30, 2024 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood with Father Joe Vandeberg officiating. A rosary lead by the Knights of Columbus will be Friday at 4:40 p.m. followed by visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service at the Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Calvary Cemetery in Glenwood. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Mark Allen Olson was born on July 23, 1953, to John and Doris (Rooney) Olson, Mark was the second of eight children, growing up in a lively and loving family.
After graduating from Glenwood High School in 1971, Mark serving his country in the United States Army, with a notable tenure in Panama. His dedication to service continued long after his honorable discharge, as he went on to work for the United States Postal Service for 35 years, where his diligence and friendly demeanor became a staple in the Glenwood community.
Mark's heart found its match when he married Denise Haugen on June 29, 1991. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home in Glenwood, where they raised their children, instilling in them the values of kindness, faith, and the importance of family. A member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Mark's faith was a cornerstone of his life. His deep belief was reflected in his actions and the way he treated others, always with compassion and generosity. Mark's passions extended beyond his faith and family. He was an avid outdoorsman, relishing every opportunity to fish and hunt in the beautiful landscapes surrounding Glenwood. Those who knew him will fondly recall his love for coffee, Milky Ways, and the simple joy of spending time with his family.
Mark is survived by his wife, Denise; his son, Liam Olson; his daughter, Karla Stone all of Glenwood and daughter, Connor (Nick) Peters of Starbuck; his cherished grandchildren, Hunter, Peyten, and Rowyn; and his great-grandson, Armanii; his sisters, Kathy (Juan) Romero of Pembroke Pines, FL and Julie (Mike) Heid of Glenwood; brothers, Jim (Cindy Flickenger) Olson of Starbuck, Jeff (Mary Jo) Olson of Cold Spring, and Mike (Brenda Majerus) Olson of Osakis, along with his sister-in-law, Becky Olson of Glenwood, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Olson; sister, Laurie Olson Robinson and great-nephew, Isaiah James Long.
