Marvin Wayne King, affectionately known as "Smurf" to his friends and loved ones, was born to parents Marvin Alexander and Wanda (Roberts) King on February 8, 1963, in Bagley, MN. He was the second of two children born to the couple. Smurf's early years were spent in Alexandria, where he graduated from Alexandria High School in 1981. His passion for music was evident from a young age, and he dedicated much of his life to playing guitar. Smurf's talent was not limited to the guitar; he was also proficient with the banjo and fiddle, and he could play anything with strings. Throughout his life, he performed with a variety of musicians and groups, including Connie Lee, Junkyard Caddy, and The Lady and the Cowboy, showcasing his versatility across all genres of music.

In February of 2006, Smurf's life took a beautiful turn when he and Angie (Henderson) Terhaar became life partners. Together, they settled down on her family's farm near Glenwood, where Smurf embraced a new chapter. In November of 2021, he joined TC American Crane Company in Glenwood, where he worked until his passing.

Smurf's interests extended beyond music. He had a love for motorcycles and was a member of Glacial Ridge ABATE. He enjoyed camping, attending threshing bees, and working on old tractors. However, his greatest joy was found in the time he spent with Angie’s grandchildren, Kaidence, Bentley, and Sebastian Terhaar, who brought immeasurable happiness to his life.

Smurf passed away very unexpectedly on the morning of Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Marvin Wayne King, "Smurf," will be held in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were touched by his music and the joy it brought.

Smurf is survived by his life partner, Angie Terhaar; her sons, Brandon and Sean Terhaar; their children, Kaidence, Bentley and Sebastian Terhaar; his sister, Rosalie (Ray) Hanson of Brandon; his beloved dog, Harley, and cat, Olaf; along with other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Wanda King.
