Mary Jane Baker, age 81 of rural Glenwood, died at home on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, under the care of her family and Glacial Ridge Hospice. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at a later date. 

Mary Jane Baker, was born on September 18, 1942, in Starbuck, Minnesota, to Bert and Anna (Mortenson) Benjaminson, Mary was the youngest sibling among ten children. Growing up on a farm south of Starbuck, Mary embraced the simple joys of country life and attended country school.

Mary united in marriage to Duane Baker on November 1, 1958 at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Together, they embarked on a remarkable journey, one that saw them make homes in various towns including Minneapolis, Willmar, Benson, and Winthrop, before eventually settling in Gilchrist Township near Glenwood. Their union was blessed with five children. Mary's role as a domestic engineer was one she performed with dedication. She had a big garden and would preserve and can her produce for her family to enjoy all year long. Mary had a daily routine that she found comfort in. A reflection of her steadfast spirit and deep faith, every morning, from 9 to 11 a.m., she would engage in bible study. Mary was adored not only by her family but also by her beloved dogs, who were her constant companions. She was a hard-working farm wife, whose hands were as skilled in helping wherever she was needed. Mary died Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at home under the care of her family and Glacial Ridge Hospice.

She is survived by her loving sons, Darryl (Terri) of Glenwood, Daniel (Amanda) of Brooten, and Duane "D.J." Baker of Glenwood; her 16 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother, Elmer (Sally) Benjaminson of Alexandria, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who were touched by her generous spirit.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Duane, who died in 2016, her daughter, Dawn Bredeken, her son, Douglass Baker, eight siblings, Betty Anderson, Marian Johnson, Evelyn Hjelle, Ruby Lundberg, Melvin, Norman, Bert, and Arlin Benjaminson, and two grandchildren, Amanda and David.
