Merl Farber, age 73, of Lowry, died Monday, June 17, 2024 at Essentia Health in Fargo, North Dakota. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21st at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lowry with Pastor Bryan Taffe officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in Gordon Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Osakis. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Merl Peter Farber was born to Erhart and Bernice (Pauls) Farber on January 13, 1951 in Long Prairie, Minnesota. He graduated from Osakis High School in 1969, before pursuing his agriculture degree at Alexandria Technical College and farming on the family farm for many years.
In the fall of 1988, Merl met Cheryl (Bergstrom) Henderson, the woman of his dreams. Cheryl was a young widow with four children. The two dated for several years before marrying on August 3, 2002, after Cheryl’s children were grown.
After their marriage, Merl continued to farm, drive truck and do mechanic work at Alexandria Power Equipment, where he worked for nearly 25 years before his retirement.
Merl enjoyed fixing tractors, collecting guns, fishing, casino trips, cards, helping others and spending time with family and friends. He also had a special love for Allis-Chalmers tractors.
Merl passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND, with his family by his side, after battling leukemia for 16 years. He was a caring and loving husband, father and grandfather and he will be greatly missed.
Merl is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl Farber of Lowry; children, Vanessa (Tony) Phillips, Brian (Kristy Gerwig) Henderson, Theresa (James Adrian) Henderson, and Melissa (Jeremy Arvidson) Schlosser; four grandchildren, Isaiah Schlosser, Calie Schlosser, Logan Arvidson and Jase Adrian; four siblings, Paul (Jan) Farber, Carl Farber, Mary Theis, and June (Steve) Rost; along with other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Erhart and Bernice Farber.
