Michael "Mike" D. Wink

Michael D. Wink, age 73, of Villard, MN, died Thursday, October 27, 2022, at his home surrounded by family and under the care of Glacial Ridge Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. on Friday, November 18th at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Villard, with Rev. Ryan Pumphrey officiating. Visitation will be at the church, one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Michael “Mike” Du Wayne Wink, son of Erbin and Bernice (Wagner) Wink, was born on December 12, 1948, in Fairmont, MN. He was raised on the family farm near Villard, along with his two younger sisters, Linda and Vicky. Mike attended school in Glenwood, where he graduated from Glenwood High School in 1967. After high school, he completed the Machining program at Alexandria Technical College before beginning his 35 year career as a machinist at Douglas Machine in Alexandria.

On August 21, 1976, Mike was united in marriage to Susan “Susie” Rinken in Terrace. They made their home in Villard, where they raised their son, Joel. Mike and his family were members of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Mike’s hobbies included fishing, gardening, woodworking, and restoring his old 8n Ford tractor. He also enjoyed hunting and was known to be a good shot with his shotgun. Mike was the kind of man who was always willing to help others. His favorite times were those spent with Susie, Joel and the rest of the family. They will miss his dry sense of humor and the way he enjoyed teasing his granddaughter, Makayla.

After battling cancer and other serious health problems for several years, Mike passed away at home on Thursday, October 27, 2022, with his family and under the care of Glacial Ridge Hospice. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Mike is survived by his wife of 46 years, Susan Wink of Villard; their son, Joel (Audrey Van Vickle) of Glenwood; granddaughter, Makayla Wink of Glenwood; step-granddaughter, Kailey (Shane) Crider of Long Prairie; two sisters, Linda (Edward) Lussman of Villard and Vicky (Earl) Nevala of Melrose; foster great-grandson, Adam; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Erbin and Bernice Wink.
