Michael "Spike" Van Vickle Obituary

Michael "Spike" D. Van Vickle, age 49 of Glenwood, died Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria. A celebration of Mike's life will be held with a visitation on Sunday, June 6th from 11:00-4:00 p.m. at Barsness Park in Glenwood.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. 

Michael David Van Vickle (Spike) was born on Aug. 10, 1971, to Vicky Van Vickle in Glenwood. He grew up in Glenwood and was baptized at Glenwood Lutheran Church. Michael attended Glenwood High School and graduated in 1990. Michael had various jobs throughout his life doing roofing and other construction-type work.

Michael had a love for sports starting when he was younger when he played football, soccer and hockey in his high school years. He loved watching any Minnesota sports team, no matter what the sport was he was always watching it. He also enjoyed biking, hiking, fishing, grilling and spending time with friends and family.

Michael passed away at Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria on Dec. 20, 2020, while on hospice care.

Michael is survived by his mother, Vicky Van Vickle; sister, Jody (Chris) Madsen; nephew, Andrew (Cheyenne) Madsen; great-nephew, Grayson Madsen; aunts, Barb Sanvig and Debra Van Vickle; uncles, David (Kathy) Van Vickle and Michael Martin; great-uncles, Steven Martin and Gary (Donna) Martin; and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leonard (Lorraine) Van Vickle; and aunts, Carolyn Martin, Cheryl Van Vickle and Charlene Van Vickle.
