Mildred "Millie" Shonts Obituary

Mildred "Millie" E. Shonts, age 98 of Glenwood, died Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at the Glenwood Retirement Village. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26th at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring at Calvary Cemetery in Glenwood. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. 

Millie Elizabeth (Hall) Shonts, the daughter of Arthur Giles Hall and Mary (Anderson) Hall was born March 2, 1923, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from Edison High School with the January Class of 1942. She met her future husband, Joseph Shonts Jr., while working at a defense plant. They were united in marriage on March 18, 1944. They began their life together in an apartment in Minneapolis and soon bought their first home in Columbia Heights. They moved to Centerville, Iowa, to live on Joe’s father’s farm. After a few years they returned to Minnesota where they bought a home in Fridley. In 1966 they moved to Brooklyn Park, where they lived until December of 2001 when they moved to Glenwood. Joe passed away December 25, 2003. Millie entered the Glenwood Retirement Village on December 30, 2021. Millie loved sewing, reading, crossword puzzles, ice skating, and visiting with her friends and family.  She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Millie is survived by her children: Marilyn (Jim) Bailey, Janis (Ray) Dahl, and Wendy (Dan) Peterson; grandchildren: Michael and Patrick Bailey, Gerry (Chris), Steve (Shauna) and Jeff (Brooke) Dahl, Krisi (Karl) Diekman, Peter (Sarah), Michael and Steven Shonts, Elisabeth (Adam) Roesch, Emily (Sam) Sidhom and Abby (Don) Simon; 22 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son David Shonts, infant grandchild Jeffrey David Bailey and thirteen brothers and sisters.
