Mitchell "Mitch" T. Anderson

Mitchell “Mitch” Anderson, age 55 of Glenwood, died Friday, March 6, 2020. A Celebration of Mitch’s life and time to gather with friends and family will be held Saturday, March 14th from noon to five at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Due to space limitations, brief visits during this time are welcomed to Mitch’s workshop, 420 Franklin Street South, Glenwood, MN. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Mitchell “Mitch” Todd Anderson, the son of Arlen “Andy” and Eunice (Yell) Anderson was born on January 3, 1965, in Aitkin, MN. He grew up in several small towns as his dad transferred to different creameries, including Palisade, Parkers Prairie, Farwell, and Glenwood. He especially treasured his childhood in Farwell. He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1983, and went to Fergus Falls Community College where he studied nursing. He started working at the Glenwood Retirement Home as a busboy at age 13 and continued to work there, later as an LPN, for many years. He then moved on to work as an LPN at Glacial Ridge Hospital. Every person he cared for recognized him for his sense of humor, dedication to his work, and genuine compassion. He was united in marriage to Kristine Nickel in 1995, and they lived in rural Glenwood, where they had two sons, William and Tyler Anderson. They later divorced, but he remained a large part of his sons’ lives. He met Carolyn Stevenson while caring for her mother in the hospital. They have been together ever since, and have shared many adventures as well as a home in Glenwood.

Mitch enjoyed deer hunting, playing cribbage, and making people laugh. He felt most at home when he was camping in the BWCA, immersing himself in nature, or at home in his workshop working on his leathercraft. 

He is survived by his mother Eunice Anderson of Glenwood; partner Carolyn Stevenson of Glenwood; sons William (fiance Hannah Freske) Anderson of Glenwood and Tyler Anderson of Glenwood; brothers Wayne (Beth) Anderson of Glenwood, Dana (Becky) Anderson of Willmar, MN, and Mark Anderson of St. Cloud, MN as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends. He is preceded in death by his father Arlen “Andy” Anderson. 

Mitch cared for and touched so many lives in the community and will be remembered for his wisecracks, one-liners, and commitment to his motto: “caring never takes a day off.”
