Regina E. (Rogers) Hood

Regina E. Hood, age 91 of rural Brooten, died Friday, May 29, 2020 peacefully at home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2020 at Big Grove Lutheran Cemetery with Pastor John Dalen officiating. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten.

Regina Eleanor Hood, the oldest of 10 children born to Gladys (Norcross) and Gilbert Rogers. She was born October 13, 1928 in Boston, Massachusetts. She grew up in Wellsey, MA where she attended school. On May 16, 1947, Regina was united in marriage to Holman Hood. This marriage was blessed with five children. The couple made their home in various states and towns until they settled in rural Brooten in 1968. They shared 22 years of marriage before Holman passed away in 1969.

Regina was a loving homemaker. Once her children were grown she went back to school and received her high school diploma in Long Prairie. She furthered her education taking classes that interested her at Ridgewater College in Willmar.

Regina was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary in New London and attended Big Grove/Crow River/Grace Lutheran Churches. She was active helping with girl and boy scouts. Regina enjoyed knitting, puzzles, reading and singing in the church choir. She especially loved singing and visiting with family and friends. Regina will be remembered for her amazing attitude about life and finding joy in the simple things.

She is survived by her son, Holman (Sheila) Hood of rural Brooten; daughters, Patricia Novak and Linda (Gilbert) Torres; grandchildren: Gilbert Torres Jr., Heather, Arthur and Shawn Novak, Jason, John, and Kent Holtberg, Holman Hood, Erika Ames and Jillian Torres; 9 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchildren; sisters, Audrey Alexander, Dayle D’Amico, Debbie Lacombe, Karen Rogers and Pam Mailloux; brother, Dwight “Smitty” Rogers; sister-in-law Sheila Rogers; and son-in-law, Thomas Holtberg; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Regina was preceded in death by her parents; 3 husbands: Holman Hood, Marvin Hamborg and John Zelleman; daughter, Susan Holtberg; an infant son, Guy Charles Hood; brother, Gilbert Rogers Jr.; sisters, Joyce Eastman and Connie Burke; and granddaughter, Wanda Gjerde.
