Robert Stelter Obituary

Robert “Bob” Stelter, age 72, of Glenwood, MN died early Saturday, May 15, 2021, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. A memorial service celebrating Robert's life will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, May 20th, at Glenwood Lutheran Church with Rev. Randy Chrissis officiating. For those who prefer to attend remotely, a live-stream of the service will be available at www.glenwoodlutheran.com. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home and will continue at the church on Thursday morning, one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Robert “Bob” Ernest Stelter was born on June 28, 1948, 15 minutes after with his twin brother, Richard, to parents Earl and Jean (Campbell) Stelter in Jamestown, ND. He and Richard were welcomed home by big sister, Marie. The twins were baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jamestown and attended Catholic parochial school before graduating from Jamestown High School in 1966. The brothers parted ways after high school, with Richard joining the military and Bob attending Wahpeton State School of Science to study surveying and then continuing on to North Dakota State University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering in 1971. After college, Bob returned home to Jamestown where he worked for Interstate Engineering.

Bob was a “confirmed” bachelor for many years before he met Donna (Weaver) Granberg and her three children, Lucas, Aaron, and Jody. On April 9, 1995, Bob and Donna married in Linwood MN. Their marriage was blessed with one son, Sean, who completed the family. Bob and Donna made their home in Glenwood, MN, where they raised their children. Bob was employed by Widseth, Smith and Nolting in nearby Alexandria as a civil engineer until his retirement in 2014, and Donna is a longtime employee at the accounting firm of Wangsness, Ogdahl, & Associates in Glenwood.

In his free time, Bob enjoyed spending time on his computer working with various computer programs. He was incredibly gifted when it came to mathematics and found enjoyment in solving complicated calculus and other technical problems. His other hobbies included gardening, traveling, sailing, camping, scuba diving and yelling at political shows on television.

Bob loved time spent with family. He looked forward to vacations and was always eager to be the cameraman when traveling, attending family gatherings, or weddings. He was a man of few words until lured into an interesting conversation.

Bob’s health had failed in recent years. Most recently he had been doctoring for heart problems at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis. He passed away there early on the morning of Saturday, May 15, 2021, with his family present. He was deeply loved and is already missed.

Bob is survived by his wife of 26 years, Donna Stelter; children, Sean and his wife, Mya Lahoud, of Glenwood, Jody and her husband, Josh Witt, of Cannon Falls, Lucas Granberg and his wife, Becky, of Argyle, WI, and Aaron Granberg and his wife, Kari, of Argyle, WI; five grandchildren, Allison, Megan, Levi, Riley, and Maise; his sister, Marie Stelter of Jamestown, ND, his twin brother, Richard, of Detroit Lakes; his sister Katherine Ekren of Jamestown, ND, and his sister, Faye (John) Weir of Portland, ME.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Jean; and two brothers, Ronald and Donald.
