Shirley (Mann) Schramm was born in Hutchinson, MN, on July 17, 1929. Her parents were Edward Mann and Edna (Carroll) Mann. Edna, her birth Mother, died when she was a toddler. Edward later married Gretchen (Magdanz) Mann. Shirley grew up in Brownton, MN, where she graduated from High School. Shirley continued her education at St. Cloud Teachers College in St. Cloud, MN, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. She taught school in Winona, MN, the next year before marrying David in 1952.
Shirley met David Alfred Schramm in 1942 at the beach at Lake Marion. This was the beginning of their great love story! They were married on June 8th, 1952, in Brownton, MN. They began their life together living in a cabin on Belle Lake outside of Hutchinson that summer. Before settling in Glenwood, MN, in 1958, Shirley and David lived in Pillager, Brownton and Swanville, MN. Shirley taught school during those years in Pillager, Hector and Swanville. Those years before the kids were born were active fun times for them as they were avid outdoor people. They enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and canoe trips.
In Glenwood, they bought a house on Lake Minnewaska next to the City Park, where they still live. Shirley gave birth to four wonderful children; Julie (1955), Jeff (1957), Janae (1960), and John (1961). Shirley greatest joys were being a loving wife, a good mother, a happy grandma and a great friend. Their door was always open to everyone! Shirley loved the cabin on Ban Lake in northern Minnesota, which she and David built from the ground up. She enjoyed being creative and was always trying a new craft. Those interests included sewing, painting, photography, throwing pottery, basket weaving, jewelry making and stamping cards to name a few! She also enjoyed traveling and seeing new things.
Shirley is survived by her husband, David; children: Julie (Mark) Rohde, Jeff (Holly) Schramm, Janae Schramm and John (Linda) Schramm; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed, but remembered with joy in our hearts and smiles on our faces because she is now in the House of the Lord forever.
