Sunny G. (Cunningham) Bartos

Sunny G. Bartos, age 69, of Glenwood, died Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood following a lengthy illness. Family and friends are invited to celebrate and remember Sunny’s life on Saturday, December 9th, between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. at Heidi’s Bar in Sedan. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Sunny Gale Bartos, the first of two children born to Don West and Shirley Cunningham, was born on February 3, 1954, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Raised in an Air Force family, Sunny spent part of her childhood in Germany and Japan before moving back to Oklahoma for high school. After graduating from Frederick High School in 1971, she continued her education in Glendale, California, where her she met the love of her life, Trevor Bartos. They were united in marriage on July 9, 1990, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and after a few years in California, they moved to Trevor's hometown of Glenwood, Minnesota.

Once back in Minnesota, Sunny and Trevor made their home on a hobby farm near Sedan, just a few miles from Glenwood. Each year Trevor raised a large garden and Sunny was always ready to lend a hand when it was time to can the produce. In her early years, Sunny aspired to be in the arts. Her work life was varied and meaningful, including her time as an assembler at WASP, a bartender at Sigs bar in Sedan, and most recently, a paraprofessional at Minnewaska Elementary in Glenwood. Sunny loved working with the children, and worked at the school for 16 years until her retirement.

Sunny was a woman of many interests, with a love for bingo, playing cards, and visiting casinos. She loved hanging out with her friends and was a fixture at ladies' night in Sedan, her laughter and good nature lighting up any room. Above all, Sunny was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren, Randi, Leah, and Preston, the joys of her life. Despite facing the challenges of dementia in her later years, Sunny remained at home, cared for by her devoted husband Trevor until her passing. She died peacefully at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood on November 4, 2023.

Sunny lived a life of love, laughter, and resilience. Her sharp wit and wild sense of humor brought joy to many, and her love for her family was unwavering. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed.

Sunny is survived by her husband of 33 years, Trevor Bartos of Glenwood; her daughter, Regina Overton and husband, Hugo Ortega; three grandchildren, Randi, Leah, and Preston Ortega; along with other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Don West and Shirley Cunningham, and her brother, Bryan Cunningham.
