Terry John Soltis was born on May 3, 1942, in Minneapolis, MN. He was the first of five children of John and Olga (Vavrina) Soltis. Terry grew up in East Grand Forks and attended school there. When he was 17, he joined the United States National Guard and fulfilled a six year obligation before his honorable discharge.
In 1964, Terry became a first time father to Cindy Soltis. On April 3, 1971, Terry was united in marriage to Pamela Kay Cooper at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Hancock. Following their marriage, the two made their home in the Twin Cities for a few years before moving to Lake Amelia near Glenwood in 1975. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Ross and Raelyn. Terry worked at Hubbard Milling Company in Alexandria as a trucker for 30 years until his retirement. After his retirement, Terry took a part-time job with Palmer Bus Service driving a van for school children. He loved the children and families he met throughout the years.
In his spare time Terry enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, motorcycling, sitting in his front yard, spending time with family and friends, and watching westerns and the History channel. Just over six months ago, he acquired a rescue dog named Vixen, who became a beloved companion.
Terry was a kind and gentle man with a big friendly smile and sparkling eyes. He will be remembered for his many special qualities and ways, including his appreciation for a good meal, his stylish wardrobe and well-kept style. Always the sharp dressed man, Terry had closets of clothes to house his vast wardrobe and cowboy boot collection. He was also careful to make sure his hair was combed just so and that he always smelled of his favorite cologne.
Terry died at his home, surrounded by family and under the care of Glacial Ridge Hospice, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, having enjoyed 82 years of life. May his memory be a blessing.
Terry is survived by his son, Ross (Amanda Tvrdik) Soltis of Sedan; two daughters, Cindy (Casey) Heckrotte of Forest Hill, MD, and Raelyn (Daren Pladson) Soltis of Fargo, ND; two grandchildren, Lucas and Reese Ransom of Fargo, ND; four siblings, LaNae (Gary) Adair, Randy Soltis, Jacque Soltis, and Dean (Vicki) Soltis; sister-in-law, Carole Jensen; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of Lake Amelia friends.
