Thomas Harlow Grundseth, the son of John Arthur and Ida (Torjuson) Grundseth was born October 26, 1937 in Brooten, Minnesota. He grew up in Brooten where he attended school and was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. After graduating from Brooten High School in 1955, Tom moved to Minneapolis, where he worked for AT & T for 30 years and was affectionately known as “Grumpy”.

On September 25, 1982, Tom was united in marriage to Deborah Sagedahl at South Lake Johanna Lutheran Church in rural Brooten. After their marriage the couple made their home in Plymouth for three years before returning to Brooten in 1985. Deb and Tom were blessed with two children, Timothy and Marin. They shared 36 years of marriage before Deb passed away in October of 2019.

Tom was a member of South Lake Johanna Lutheran Church, where he served on the church board. When his son was young he served as a Boy Scout leader and he was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Villard and his daily drives from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. that he referred to as “tour time”, which involved driving around looking at crops and wildlife. Tom was an avid deer hunter and once upon a time even hunted moose. He was an accomplished fisherman and shared many adventures with friends and family pursing his hobbies. He frequented Leech Lake but had fished above the Arctic Circle and in Canada.

Tom was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer in the fall of 2023. He died peacefully on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at home, surrounded by family. He will be remembered for his quick wit, dry sense of humor and as a wonderful grandpa to grandsons, Kameron and Liam.

Tom is survived by his son, Timothy Grundseth, of Brooten; daughter, Marin (Josh Cretilli) Grundseth of Villard; two grandsons, Kameron Grundseth and Liam Cretilli; sister-in-law, Denise Backer of Glenwood; brother-in-law, Daniel (Susan) Sagedahl of Brooten; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah; his parents, Arthur and Ida Grundseth; two brothers, Bruce and John; and two nephews, Keven Grundseth and Tyler Torkelson.
