Verna F. Kolstad, age 88 of Glenwood died Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Glenwood Retirement Village. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2nd at Scandia Lutheran Church with Pastor Ron Knutson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be following the service at Rolling Forks Cemetery in rural Glenwood. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Verna F. Kolstad, daughter of Simon J. and Eunice (Peterson) Kolstad, was born on March 15, 1932 at home in Swift Falls, Camp Lake Township, Minnesota. She was the 10th of 12 children born to the couple. She grew up in Swift Falls, attending Rolling Forks Lutheran Church and school in nearby Benson, where she was a graduate of Benson High School. She worked for Federal Cartridge in the Twin Cities and later as a bookkeeper and seamstress out of her home before moving to Pelican Lake near Glenwood. Later she lived with her sister, Shirley Hegg, on Lake Ben just outside of Glenwood. In recent years the two have been residents of Glenwood Retirement Village.
Verna’s hobbies included framing pictures, sewing, embroidery and watching birds and wildlife that wandered into the yard. She also enjoyed playing her piano. She was a longtime member of Scandia Lutheran Church. Her strength and determination were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Verna died Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at Glenwood Retirement Village. Blessed be the memory of Verna Kolstad.
Verna is survived by her sister, Shirley Hegg of Glenwood, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Eunice; and ten siblings: Corah Goff, Omar Kolstad, Ervin Kolstad, Viola Callinan, LuVerne Kolstad, Sherman Kolstad, Lucille Hendrickson, baby boy Kolstad, Kathleen Lagred, and Robert Kolstad.
