Victor Johnson Obituary

Victor D. Johnson, age 81, of Starbuck, MN died on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at New Beginnings in Starbuck. A funeral service for Victor will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 19th, at Lowry Community Covenant Church in Lowry, with Pastor Andy League officiating. Visitation will be at the church, one hour prior to the service. Interment in Ben Wade Covenant Cemetery will follow the service. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Victor Duane Johnson was the eldest child born to Oscar and Thyra (Erickson) Johnson on August 5, 1938. He attended country school in rural Kensington. He was baptized and confirmed at Ben Wade Covenant Church, where he was a lifetime member. He enjoyed being the big brother to his sisters, Ethel and Marian. He also enjoyed farm tractors, mowing the lawn, and the family dog.

Victor lived at home with his parents and moved with them to Lowry in the late 60’s, where he stayed until entering Swift County Homes in Benson in 1981. He later moved to New Beginnings in Glenwood (1993) and Starbuck (2017), where he resided until his death.

Victor attended Pope County DT&H for many years where he made many friends. He always enjoyed a cup of coffee and a good meal and in his later years, developed an affinity for his collection of stuffed animals. He was known for being a kind, gentle man and a friend to all.

Victor will be sadly missed by his family, including sister Marian (Jim) Witthar; brother-in-law Glen Lundblad; niece Cindy (Dave) Kurilla; nephews Mark (Kristi) Anderson, Yosha Hanson, and Yurii (Kerry) Hanson; great nieces and nephews Matthew (Talia), Michaela, Christopher, Elijah, Ava, Etta, Runa, and Noah; and his family at New Beginnings.

Victor was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ethel (Anderson) Lundblad, and brother-in-law Daniel Anderson.

The family wishes to thank the many people who provided care for Victor over the years, including but not limited to the staff of New Beginnings and Pope County DT&H, social workers, and health care providers. Special thanks and gratitude to Daphne Pooler, for serving as Victor’s long-time caregiver, advocate and friend.
