Viola Hesse, age 98 of Glenwood, formerly Brooten, died Friday, November 8, 2019 at the Glenwood Retirement Village. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten with Pastor Steven Bovendam officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten.
Viola Emma Hesse was born in Brooten, Minnesota to Emma (Meier) and Henry Hesse on April 24, 1921. She received her education in Brooten, graduating with the Class of 1939. She was employed at Wonderalls in Paynesville for several years. Viola was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, WELCA, Joy Circle and Trinity Quilters. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the “Red Hat Society.” She was an avid reader, worked her daily crossword puzzles, enjoyed knitting lovely afghans, and doing embroidery. She lived her entire life in Brooten until moving to Parkview Court in Glenwood in 2012.
She is survived by her nieces, LaDonna (Myron) Larson of Aitkin, Sonja Hawn of Sedan, Ann Eskelson of Terrace, Virginia (Doug) Nelson of Rothsay; nephew, Lynn (Pat) Hesse of Bloomington; great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ellen Hesse and brothers, Lawrence and Edwin Hesse.
