Wanda Stone Obituary

Wanda Stone, age 87 of Rochester, formerly Forada, died Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Rochester Rehab and Living Center. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 6th at 1:00 p.m. at the Hudson Cemetery (Union Lake Cemetery) in Forada. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Wanda June Mattson was born on March 31, 1937, at New Auburn, Wisconsin. She was the second of four children born to Alfred Alenson and Olga Josephine (Lindquist) Mattson. Wanda was baptized in the Lutheran faith. She grew up in Hayward, Wisconsin where she attended school and graduated from high school with the Class of 1955. On November 3, 1956, she was united in marriage to Richard Furley Stone in Hayward. This marriage was blessed with five children. Wanda and Dick made their home in Wisconsin. In 1967, they moved to Minnesota where Dick worked for Anderson Windows and Wanda was a homemaker. In 1996, the pair moved to Forada, where they spent their retirement years. Wanda and Richard shared 55 years of marriage before his death in 2012.

Wanda enjoyed attending plays, listening to country music, and of course, spending time with her family.

In October of 2022, Wanda moved to Rochester. She passed away there on June 22, 2024, at Rochester Rehab and Living Center, at the age of 87. She will be greatly missed.

Wanda is survived by her children, Richard Jr. (Valarie) Stone of Alexandria, Raymond (Julie) Stone of Ellsworth, WI, Jacqueline (Gerry) Sandwick of Alexandria, Rene' Stone of New Richland, WI and Juanita’s significant other, Tom Urman; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Olga; her husband, Richard; her daughter, Juanita Radunz; her brothers, Patrick Allen Mattson and Douglas Richard Mattson; and her sister, Patricia Ann White.
