Wesley Garrett Seibel, known affectionately as Wes, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 58 on April 27, 2024, at CentraCare Hospital in Sauk Centre, MN. Born on July 21, 1965, in Bismarck, ND, to parents Floyd James and Rosella “Sally” (Roth) Seibel, Wes grew up in a close-knit community that would shape the man he would become. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, known for his loving nature, humorous spirit, and handy skills that endeared him to all who knew him.
Wesley was raised on the family farm near Sterling, ND. He attended elementary school in his hometown before graduating from nearby Driscoll High School in 1984. After graduation, Wes followed in the footsteps of his family and continued the tradition of farming. On October 12, 1985, he was united in marriage to Laurel Winkowitsch at Driscoll Lutheran Church. The two made their home on the family farm.
After working diligently on his parents' dairy farm for nine years, honing the skills that would serve him well throughout his life, Wes sought to forge his own path and so he and Laurel purchased a farm near Grove Lake, MN. There, they established their home and raised their three sons in the family farming tradition. Wes continued dairy farming until 2012, when he made the decision to shift his focus to raising beef cattle and crops, a venture he pursued with the same dedication and love he brought to all his endeavors.
Beyond his work, Wes had a variety of interests that reflected his zest for life and love for the world around him. He was an avid guitar player, rock collector, and auto racing enthusiast. He also looked forward to attending auction sales, where he enjoyed visiting with old and new friends while on the lookout for a good deal. Sadly, it was while attending an auction sale near Sauk Centre on Saturday, April 27th, that Wes suffered an unexpected, fatal heart attack.
Those who knew Wes best would say he was the epitome of loving, funny, and handy. He was a pillar of strength for his wife, Laurel Seibel of Glenwood, and a hero to his three sons, Wesley Jr. of Forada, Justin (Elizabeth) of Alexandria, and Alex of Glenwood. His legacy continues in his grandson, Sterling Seibel, who will grow up hearing tales of his grandfather's kindness and humor. Wes's mother, Sally Seibel of Sterling, ND, will remember her son's unwavering love and the joy he brought to her life. His sisters, Jule (Kevin) Holzer and Sandy (Matt) McMerty, along with his brothers, Ronald (Wanda) Seibel and Jim (Linda) Seibel, will cherish the memories of their brother who could always be counted on for a laugh or a helping hand. His mother-in-law, Faith McDonald, along with his nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends, will miss Wes's warm presence and the light he brought into their lives.
Wes was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Seibel and his father-in-law, Benjamin Winkowitsch.
