Nancy Hitchcock
Owner / Funeral Director
Nancy Melgaard Hitchcock was born and raised in Thief River Falls, MN. She holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, and is also a licensed attorney, having graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1992. Nancy practiced law in Cold Spring, MN, for 14 years before purchasing the funeral homes in Glenwood and Brooten in 2006. While she is no longer actively engaged in the practice of law, she remains licensed and serves as legal counsel for the funeral home when the need arises. In August of 2018, Nancy enrolled in the Mortuary Science program at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny, IA. There she studied Mortuary Science and Funeral Services. In August of 2019, Nancy successfully completed the program, graduating with an Associate degree in Funeral Services and an Advanced Standing Diploma in Mortuary Science. That fall, she took and passed her national and state board exams to officially become a licensed Intern at the funeral home, working under the direction of longtime employee Dawn Jenson. In 2020, Nancy completed her internship and was licensed by the State of Minnesota as a Mortician/Funeral Director.
In addition to her funeral director responsibilities, as the owner/manager of Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home, Nancy oversees the day-to-day operation of the business. This includes meeting with clients to pre-plan funeral and memorial services. She is the funeral home's preneed specialist and holds a life insurance license, which enables her to offer life insurance products through companies with strong "consumer first" values, designed to protect and grow client burial funds. She is also a cemetery marker sales representative for Little Falls Granite Company, Murphy Granite, and Coldspring.
Nancy is a member of Restoration Church in Glenwood. She has two college-aged sons who often help out at the funeral home.
