Rosella F. Oeltjen, age 93 of Glenwood, died Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the Glenwood Retirement Village. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 20th at Calvary Cemetery in Glenwood with Father Joe Vandeberg officiating.
Rosella “Rosie” Frances Oeltjen, the daughter of Joseph Wencil and Anne Mary (Kalina) Bartos was born September 29, 1923 in Reno Township, Pope County, Minnesota. She grew up in Reno Township and attended country school. At the age of 14, she became a nanny for her eldest sister, Agnes’ children.
On April 9, 1947, Rosella was united in marriage to Howard John Oeltjen at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood. After their marriage the couple made their home on the Oeltjen family farm near Villard. This marriage was blessed with four children. In November of 1959, they moved to a farm near Lowry where they made their home until they moved into Glenwood in 1997.
Throughout her life, Rosie was employed at the Nelson creamery, Cliff’s café, the Minnewaska Golf course, Torgy’s, Lakeside, Corner Drug and Dr. Green & Gilman’s dentistry. Rosie loved gardening, especially flowers. She also enjoyed fishing, walking and basket weaving. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Elizabeth (Semi) Sanvig of Trapper Creek, AK, John (Becky) Oeltjen of Glenwood and Johanna (Todd Berg) Henke of Glenwood; grandchildren: Jacki Sanvig, Melissa (Scott) Coleman, Heather (Aaron) Zabel, Samantha (TJ) Johnson, Troy (Karla Stone) Pederson, Trent Pederson, Tricia Pederson, Kala Pederson, Taylor Oeltjen, Alexander Oeltjen, Kathryn (Cody) Henderson and Julia Henke; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sister-in-law, Pat Bartos; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Rosie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard and daughter Evelyn Oeltjen, both in 2011; grandsons: Allan Sanvig and Trevor Pederson; siblings, Agnes Gaffaney, Lucy Femrite, Walter Bartos, Frank Bartos, Robert Bartos and John Bartos.
